Critically ill patients often need to be transferred within and outside the hospital, and during the transfer process, most of them need ventilator support ventilation or high-concentration oxygen inhalation. For clinical medical staff, the confusion they often encounter is: How long can the oxygen in the oxygen cylinder be used? Will there be insufficient oxygen during the journey? Therefore, we should be prepared in advance, clearly know the volume of oxygen in the oxygen cylinder, and accurately calculate the oxygen consumption during the patient's transfer, so as to ensure the safety of the critically ill patients during the transfer. Today, let's start with understanding medical oxygen cylinders.

1. Cylinder Specifications

The measurement unit of the size of medical oxygen cylinder is volume unit: liters (L), medical oxygen cylinder is mainly divided into 40 liters large bottles and 12 liters less small bottles. Small oxygen cylinders are mainly used as emergency vehicles, transport ventilator and oxygen inhalation gas source for transport patients. The most commonly used medical oxygen cylinders in the market are 2 to 10 liters.

Configuration Advice:

1. 2-4 liters of oxygen cylinders are selected for ordinary oxygen transfer of patients, conventional 3

2. 6-8 liters of oxygen cylinders were selected from the ventilator during the hospital transfer of patients, conventional 3

3. 10-12 liters of oxygen cylinders are selected for out-of-hospital patient transport emergency vehicles, conventional 6-8 (3-4 ambulances)

(Reason: ensure that the patient has enough oxygen in the cylinder, and when replacing the new oxygen cylinder, ensure that the department has a spare. It takes 3-5 days to fill the empty central oxygen cylinder)

2. Attended Mode

1. Flow Pressure Reducing Valve

Also known as low pressure valve, it is used for hospital transfer of ordinary oxygen inhalation, and the flow rate needs to be adjusted according to the patients blood oxygen monitoring value

2. High-pressure Oxygen Pressure Relief Valve

It is used to deliver oxygen to the ventilator during the in-hospital and out-of-hospital transport of patients, and the oxygen concentration adjustment is made at the ventilator interface. Therefore, it belongs to the high pressure oxygen administration, oxygen pressure range to maintain 0.3—0.5Mpa, the ventilator can work normally.

3. G2 Integrated Valve

G2 integrated valve integrates switching valve, pressure reducing valve and flowmeter, which integrates the functions of multiple valve tables. The advantage is time-saving and highly efficient.

Both ordinary oxygen inhalation and ventilator oxygen administration

The simple operation of switch and flow regulation saves the time of use and adjustment

There is no need to connect the pressure reducing valve, flow meter, etc., time-saving, efficient

Using the transfer ventilator, the air source French joint is manually connected quickly, saving the time of connecting the ventilator

3. Oxygen Storage Volume

The medical oxygen in the medical cylinder is in a compressed gas state, and the filled cylinder has about 135~150 atmospheric pressures. From the pressure gauge assembled on our cylinder, the pointer is between 13.5 ~ 15 Mpa. When the 10L cylinder and 50L cylinder are filled with oxygen, the pressure is the same. Therefore, the greater the pressure in the cylinder of the same volume, the more the oxygen is loaded. However, the upper pressure limit for conventional medical oxygen cylinders is 15 Mpa.

In the example above, the oxygen stored in the cylinder is 14 Mpa.1 Mpa is equal to 10 standard atmospheres, 8 liters of oxygen cylinder contains oxygen: 14*10*8=1,120 liters.

4. Inflation Mode

At present, the inflation of small oxygen cylinders in some hospitals in China is filled by departments or general affairs departments through 40 liters of large cylinders. This practice is not in accordance with national regulations, and there are safety risks. The most important thing is that the compressed oxygen in the small oxygen cylinder is small and the use time is very short. In the process of large filling and small, the pressure in the large cylinder will drop, the pressure in the small cylinder will increase, and the pressure of the two cylinders will slowly be equally equal. Moreover, according to the Gas Cylinder Safety Supervision Regulations, filling medical oxygen cylinders must have the Gas Cylinder Charging Permit, and the relevant filling personnel must have relevant qualifications; meanwhile, filling cylinders can only be filled with their own property rights. Therefore, at present, hospitals and other units are not allowed to fill their own oxygen bottles.

5. Notes for The Use of Oxygen Cylinders

1. Do not dump or violently impact.

2. Do not use in places above 50℃ and avoid direct sunlight.

3. Due to the combustion-supporting nature of oxygen, please do not approach fire or grease

4. Medical oxygen cylinders must not use up all the oxygen in the bottle. If it is below 3Mpa, replace it with a spare cylinder in time.
